As the sun rises on a new chapter in my life, I find myself returning to the charming city of Aberdeen after a hiatus of 20 years. Once a part of its vibrant wedding industry, I am now a wedding videographer, eager to reconnect with the place that holds so many cherished memories. In this blog, I will share my journey of reestablishing connections within Aberdeen’s wedding industry as a wedding videographer, embracing its rich Scottish traditions, and showcasing the unique and breathtaking wedding venues that make this city so magical.

Returning to Aberdeen after two decades feels like coming home after a long journey. However, stepping back into the wedding industry requires a delicate approach. The first challenge I face is reconnecting with professionals who may have moved on or evolved in their craft. Networking events, industry gatherings, and workshops will be my stepping stones towards forging new relationships and reviving old ones.

Building relationships with fellow professionals, wedding planners, and vendors is vital for mutual support and success. By collaborating with wedding planners, I can offer my videography expertise and create a seamless experience for couples. Vendors, on the other hand, can refer my services to their clients, strengthening my presence in the industry.

Overcoming the challenge of being away for so long will require persistence, humility, and a willingness to adapt to new trends and technologies. I hope to receive the warm Scottish welcome that embraces old friends and embraces new ones, enabling me to reintegrate seamlessly into the local wedding videographer and photographer community.

Scotland’s wedding traditions have always fascinated me, and returning to Aberdeen in 2024 allows me to immerse myself in their timeless beauty once again. From the lively ceilidh dancing to the haunting sound of bagpipes, these traditions hold the essence of Scottish culture, and I aim to incorporate them into my videography style.

One tradition that deeply influences my storytelling is the ancient Celtic handfasting ritual. The symbolism of binding a couple’s hands together during the ceremony is incredibly powerful, representing their union and commitment to each other. Capturing this moment on film will add a unique and heartfelt touch to my videos, allowing couples to relive the profound emotion of their special day.

Aberdeen boasts a breathtaking array of wedding venues that perfectly encapsulate its rich history and natural beauty. From majestic castles that seem to emerge from fairy tales to enchanting gardens and scenic coastlines, each venue offers a distinct atmosphere that can cater to every couple’s vision.

One notable venue that stands out is the enchanting Drum Castle. Its ancient stone walls and meticulously landscaped gardens provide a picturesque backdrop for both intimate and grand celebrations. Having filmed a wedding there in the past, I can attest to the captivating ambiance it creates, enhancing the romance of the event.

Another gem is the Logie Country House, nestled in the heart of the Aberdeenshire countryside. Its rustic charm and idyllic surroundings set the stage for intimate gatherings that are infused with warmth and coziness. I look forward to capturing the joy and intimacy of weddings held in such unique locations.

There are plenty of other locations i look forward to working in, like the famous House of Elrick, the nearby Ardoe House and Spa and the timeless Banchory Lodge.

Returning to Aberdeen after 20 years is not merely a homecoming but an opportunity to rediscover and reimagine its vibrant wedding industry, embrace its rich traditions, and showcase its diverse and captivating wedding venues. Through perseverance and genuine connections with fellow professionals, I am excited to once again be a part of this wonderful community that celebrates love and captures timeless moments on film. With my passion for Scottish traditions and a camera in hand, I am ready to weave the magic of Aberdeen’s weddings into beautiful, everlasting memories.
